Our Mexican GTG with Gerardo
Hi Everyone,
We just got back from Mexico last night and I have to say this was one of the best vacations we have ever had. The hotel was beautiful, and the weather was great. The highlight of the trip was getting to meet Gerardo, or Gerry as we now know him. We met in Playa del Carmen where Gerry lives the day we got in. Our code to recognize each other would be by our watches. We sat down had a beer and it was like we had known each other for years, which in reality we had since we have PM'ed a few times as well as our post over the years here on TRF. He is really a super guy. We were talking about never actually going into the city of Cancun on our prior visits and Gerry offered to take us in to Cancun on Monday as he had business there. We jumped at the chance to see the city with a great guide like Gerry. [/IMG] He picked us up at our resort and we drove into Cancun. He showed us all the tourist spots along hotel row. Then we went to one of his favorite cigar stores and went in and picked up some Cuban cigars. Then he needed to get to his meeting he had so he dropped us off at the malls. The first was an open air mall, it did have an AD there. They had a few Rolex's and a good selection of other fine timepieces. One of the nicest was an all 18k rose gold mans Cartier Santos Dumont that my wife fell in love with. They offered a really killer discount and exchange rate and if you use a credit card you got even better savings. The watch listed at $17k US and after everything it would of ended up costing us around 11K US and no tax. A couple of hours later we met Gerry back at the larger mall at Luxury Avenue. That was where the large AD was. They had some really great brands besides Rolex. Pam, JLC, Omega, and many others. The Rolex AD there had a pretty good selection and even had a couple of DDII's in stock. Not a whole lot of stainless watches and the only sub was a non date. We then left and went to a great steak house and a the best meal we had while on our vacation. The place was Puerto Morelos across the street from the Ritz. We started the meal off with a shot of the best tequila we have ever tasted. It was a 10 year old Jose Cuervo and it was as good as any single malt scotch I have tried. We had Oysters, Cheese and killer steaks. Then we finished off our great meal by having great cigars. Gerry had a Padron 1926 I brought and I had a Cuban Montecristo #2 he brought. My wife did not have any as she got her fill just from us smoking. We really appreciated Gerry taking out time from his busy schedule to take a couple of new friends out on the town. As I said before he is really a good guy and wonderful host, plus he has great taste in cars, drink, cigars food and of course watches. Thanks to him I now want a white faced Pam like he was wearing. This firms up my belief that some of the best people out there are here on TRF. I cant wait until Gerry comes to Atlanta so we can show him our town. Thanks again Gerardo. Here are a couple more images.
