How to Size a Datejust

I recently successfully resized my Datejust and want to share the materials and procedure because I feel like a Datejust specific thread on this topic is missing.

Thanks in advance to @Jocke and @Searchart for answering my questions about Loctite and what size screwdriver to use!

This is what worked for me, but do at your own risk of course!

Materials:



-220 grit sandpaper
-1.2mm precision screwdriver from Wiha tools (no i don’t work for them)
-watch bracelet holder from Amazon (don’t work for them either)
- Loctite 222
-toothpick
-Datejust
-Lighter

Steps:

1. Identify what links and consequently what screws you will be removing.

2. Test fit screwdriver into screw slot. Chances are it will fit a little bit loose.

3. Hold a screwdriver at a 90° angle to the sandpaper and sand for a bit then check fitment again. The idea is that as a blade gets shorter, it also gets thicker so as to fit the screw slot more snug.



4. Repeat step 3 until screwdriver fits snug into screw slot.

5. Use the lighter to heat up the screw from the opposite side of the link (female side) to loosen up the Loctite that is present there from factory. I heated it for about 3 seconds. You might see black zoot appear, but don’t worry, it wipes off.

6. Place bracelet on bracelet holding block and use screwdriver to carefully remove screw! (Mine took some force but hardly any)




7. Continue removing screws until you get where you need to!

8. When putting the screws back in to put the bracelet together, you need to reapply Loctite to make sure that the screw doesn’t loosen up. Use the toothpick to apply Loctite only onto the female thread where the screw will screw in. (If you apply Loctite to the screw then slide it in, the Loctite will spread to the whole screw and will make it harder than it needs to be to loosen up the screw for next time!)
