SOLD: Vintage Seiko Grand Quartz 4843-7001 (1976)
Vintage Seiko Grand Quartz 4843-7001 (1976)
This is an unusually excellent example of a Seiko Grand Quartz 4843-7001 with original and full XQB 310 bracelet. The serial number dates it to July 1976. (Fun fact: This model was originally priced at 80,000 yen, with the then-recently discontinued Grand Seiko line of high-end mechanical watches selling for 47,000 yen the year before. See 1975/1976 catalogue pics below.) Condition The white tapestry dial and hands are in pretty much mint condition, and it’s hard to find fault anywhere even with a x10 loupe. See the macro pics below. The case is generally excellent, with the frosted steel top and polished sides retaining their original finish. The very comfortable bracelet with GQ clasp is also in great shape, and closes firmly. It has just been ultrasonically cleaned and new quality springbars were installed. The movement is running at about +1 second per week (as per original specs). The signed crown pulls out to hack the movement and set the quickset date and day as it should. A new battery was installed in Japan in June 2020. (Changing at home with a small coin takes just a few seconds, via a small hatch in the caseback.) This is a very cool daily wearer with a great vintage look, interesting history, and always right and ready to wear. Facts & Figures Production date: July 1976. Case: 36.5mm x 11.5mm. Lug width: 19mm. Movt: Seven-jewel Seiko GQ 4843 quartz with quickset day/date. English and Japanese Kanji days optional. Crystal: Hardlex. Waterproof: No. Strap: Brand new, unworn SEIKO leather strap. Price: US$595 plus shipping. Bank wire is preferred, or Paypal is also fine, with the family/friend option, if you have references, or if I know you. Please just shoot me a PM if you’re interested or have questions. Thank you for looking
