Bought My First Rolex Today
I decided to pull the trigger on my first Rolex today and I couldn’t be happier.
Yesterday I posted about how a local AD offered me a TT Daytona with a white dial. While this was not on my original list (SS Sub, TT Sub and Milgauss) it still does have its appeal 1- I really wanted a TT and was souring on the SS Sub. One of you posted a great saying about “stainless steel is for my cutlery, gold is for my watch” and I like that. The solid gold versions are out of my reach but TT is a good middle ground. 2- I haven’t done enough “buy once cry once” in my life. I wanted to treat myself and the Daytona is a nice treat. I hadn’t included it on my original list because, let’s be honest, it’s not a price point where most people make their first purchase. But I’m rewarding myself with it. 3- I fell in love with it at the store. It felt great on my wrist, really comfortable to wear and a solid watch all around. She may not be my first love but she is far from ugly! Finally, I have to say that a big part of me thinks that the “AD dance” is just plain ridiculous. Hopefully this puts me on their radar and I can get other things easier and stop the nonsense. I was starting to sour on Rolex in general because of that but I’m now finally an owner. The AD that case through for me is also a really nice family store, one location, owner-run, etc so it’s nice to support a business like that. |
