How to use the oyster link removal tool

I'm thinking of buying the Esslinger oyster link removal tool to remove a permanent link for my Rolex 114270.

There are two things that I'm still not sure and hoping someone who has used the tool can help:
1. Will the tool leave any damage or scratch mark? Is there a technique to use it so that you can prevent scratches?
2. Once the knurled pin is pulled out, can you use the same pin to close the link or do you have to use a new knurled pin?
