Funny AD story

Went to my AD yesterday and picked up a Wimbledon 36 for my wife(see my incoming post) but as we were waiting to get in the store, we experienced a funny moment.

The AD just received exhibition models and for the first time in years had watches on display. The buzz by the window displays was something I haven’t seen. Probably about a dozen people looking at the ‘display model only, not for resale’ watches in the windows as if they have never seen a watch in their life.

Anyways, there was a guy on the phone in front of us pacing back and forth from the window with red OP to the security guard by the front door. I could barely hear his conversation but I had a feeling he was calling a friend saying they had watches to buy.

I told my wife that he’s in for a sad sad reality check and as the hostess came out to ask how she can help him he said he wanted to buy the watch in the display. She proceed to tell him that it’s a display model only and if he wanted to come in and ‘handle it’ and speak with an SA he needed to make an appointment. Unfortunately they were fully booked and he would have to come back another day.

He asked if he makes an appointment if he can then buy the watch and she once again explained they have no watches available but an SA would gladly take down a wish list during his appointment.

He wasn’t a big fan of what transpired and stormed off.

I guess it’s the sad reality of display models making people go nuts at the store.

On a side note when chatting with our SA I asked if she was happy they have exhibition models for people to try on she said yes but it’s a double edged sword. It helps those people that understand how the Rolex market works get a feel for which model they prefer however it’s a pain having to constantly explain to others that they can buy the exhibition pieces.
