SO Close . . . suggestions re: GMT v Sub

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on my first Rolex. Want to be smart about my "first".

Really like the looks of the GMT and the Submariner and have a hard time telling the difference between the two. I imagine they are glaring and I'm just missing it. Any suggestions/strong advocates one way or another?

In the stainless steel models is there much difference between how they hold their value?
