When did the Submariner move to 904L?

Hello,

New on this board, and too Rolex. I'm looking for a Submariner 14060m. I prefer the two line pre-COSC models from 2000 - 2006. But I also want to get the most recent tech I can as I plan on keeping and using it until it's truly vintage (or outlasts me). So I'm looking to get a model that uses the 904L steel. According to my searches it says that Rolex converted their steel watches to 904L in 2003. I'm wondering if they converted the Submariner earlier than that or should I be confining my search to just 2004-2006 (serial F or D)?

Thanks
