When and why Tudor pulled out of the North American Market?

Hey guys, doing a little research and cannot seem to find it. Does anyone know exactly when and why Tudor stopped selling watches to the North America market before rereleasing in 2012?

Finding very limited information. Sounds like a rebranding, and it happened somewhere between the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

Any links that would provide further information would be appreciated.
