I have tested plots in a safe, darkening over a year and change.

Couple things, moisture and a safe can darken - as can other factors thru normal use in the sun. Also, lume is sometimes different on black dials versus blue, and even with runs of same color dials. Pure speculation, these dials were done in batches and the lume compounds varied a bit when delivered, and when sat waiting to be applied. But the older you go, the more variances in lume compounds you see over time.
