I feel that a rubber strap may change the wearability in a negative way. Most rubber strap watches I own do not wear as well as the bracelet equivalents due to the flare from the stiff rubber strap. For example, Overseas wears best on its leather strap, Aquanaut, MB&F LM classics vs EVO.

With a rubber strap, it may negate the advantage you mentioned above and makes the watch wears larger.
