IWC Big Pilot Top Gun Perpetual and Oversized Watches

I've never tried a sports watch beyond 40 mm before, and was very curious about the Big Pilot series. Specifically, I was wondering if the Big Pilot perpetuals at 48 mm could possibly work on my wrist, and I'm not a tall beefy guy. I can't find a lot of information on this line, beyond the general discussions of IWC pilot watch history.

Any advice generally on trying bigger watches and seeing if they work for you (and not being in a hurry to pull the trigger)? And specifically on IWC Big Pilot perpetuals?
