To me the 5822 dial looks unbalanced and worlds apart from the asymmetric 5712 and Lange 1 dials. The empty space in the lower left corner looks weird as if somebody is pushing the subdials to the right. This visual effect gets emphasized by the symmetric position of the outsized date which looks much better on a Lange 1 IMO.

Agreed. There is a symmetry in the asymmetrical 5712, unlike the 5822p.

And now that you mentioned it, I can’t unsee the open space in the lower left corner, and how squished to the middle the day / moon phase sub-dial is.

The complication is interesting, though. I hope it gets rolled out on other references.
