Search in the UK for a Daytona...

Sorry if this topic is a little common and/or tiresome!

I am looking to buy a Daytona in the next few weeks, or rather, in all likeliness get on the list to buy a Daytona!
I have been looking at prices in the UK for Daytonas and if you want a new one tomorrow £7500 seems about the going rate.
I have heard all the horrifying posts about 5 year waiting lists, and thought I would drop in to my local AD.
"Good day Sir, I was rather hoping that you could tell me you have a brand new Daytona out the back which a customer ordered a few years ago and now cannot afford, and you are happy to pass on to me for RRP?!"
Cue a tight smile and gentle shake of the head.
I had a good chat with the AD, and he informed me that, if I put down a £500 (returnable) deposit, and can prove that I live nearby, he is happy to pick up the phone and sort out a Daytona for me in about 12 months. He asked me not to shout it out, but felt confident that, providing I'm not fussy about face colour, 12 months should be about the longest I should be waiting at this point in time.
As I cannot make my mind up about which face I would rather have - I love them both - this seems reasonable to me.
I won't mention exactly where I live or who the AD is, but I thought this was pretty good. Hopefully I will be laying the deposit down in the next few weeks.

I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on this. Am I being led on, are Daytonas becoming more easily available (Internet prices certainly do not seem to reflect this) does my AD simply like the cut of my jib, or is this all so much marketing guff? If it is the final option, it seems surprising because I could wear it for 12 months and, providing it was in good nick, sell it and get back what I paid for it!

According to my AD the current RRP is £6170 for a SS.
