Lots of people say these things about Rolex, without even taking the time to do any research. The same people are now bitching and complaining about Omega and Breitling prices, for their new inhouse movements. Some models are even priced 2 grand more than the same model with the modified ETA movement.
I will have to admit, the reason I stayed away from Rolex for the longest time, was that I liked the look of a lot of other watches better, and they were priced a bit higher than I wanted to pay. Lately, however, I am having a great time in the Rolex world, at the expense of Omega. Their attitude of late I find to be very elitist and arrogant. They know that Rolex has always beat them out in sales and quality, and being by far the largest manufacturer of COSC watches. And I think that they (Omega) are aggravated by this, just as many consumers are aggravated by the fact that they feel Rolexes are out of range for them. Very fortunately for me, I am really getting into the smaller size watches, 34mm to 36mm. There is absolutely no other watchmaker out there who has the selection of models, and the range of dials in these size watches. And each and every one of the watches is an inhouse movement! I give top marks for Rolex for staying away from the "bigger is better" trends. I looked at the GMT IIc on the weekend, an absolute stunner, and that at 40mm. It has a wonderful wrist presence, yet it will fit smaller wrists as well. How clever is that!? I wish that I had been on the ball earlier, and paid more attention to Rolex. Fortunately, it's never too late. There will be a new one for me within the next couple of weeks. Cheers, Carl |
