New Deepsea Owner

This is my very first Rolex purchase. Thought I would put in my two-cents worth since there seems to be some differing opinions on the Deepsea. I purchased the watch from Hautelook about a month ago. I got a great deal, $7300 with no sales tax. It took about 10 days for the watch to be shipped.

My first impressions were very similar to many on this board about the DSSD. As an owner of a Tag previously, this watch seemed HUGE. I think the thickness is more of an adjustment than the case size. The watch is also very heavy and you know you are wearing it vs most other watches. Since I wear a suit to work I was worried that this watch wouldn't fit under my shirt cuff, but it fits with room to spare. Still, I found myself being VERY AWARE of this watch being on my wrist It took a day or two to get used to.

At around day 3 once I got used to the weight and size, it hit me. This watch is awesome. Despite it's size, it does not move around on my wrist even though there is some slack. Its very well balanced. The clasp is a feat of modern engineering. The casing is so shiny that it reflects like a mirror. Much the same with the domed crystal and ceramic bezel. The reflectivity of the crystal/bezel makes this watch jump out without being flashy or pretentious. The "Original Gas Escape Valve" lettering on the face looks big in pictures, but in person its just not that noticeable. I think looking at a large hi-def picture of this watch somehow mis-represents how good it looks in person....if that makes any sense.

I have now been wearing my DSSD for two weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I ran into my local jeweler last week at a restaurant. He is a Rolex dealer, and was none too happy that I bought the watch from Hautelook. There was no way he could match the price I got it for. With what sounded like sour grapes he told me..."those deepsea's don't have good resale value"....I replied ...."I don't plan on reselling it, I plan on giving it to my son when I die"

P.S. I have not so big 6 1/2" wrists. No problem!
