red Sub 1680 serial number preservation

Hi all,

firstly a big shout out of THANKS to all of you for all the invaluable info provided on this forum.........

my question is with regards to the reference numbers between lugs. I have a 1971 Red Sub with a wee bit of rust spots/ battle scars.

Is there anything I could do to preserve/ restore this part of the case ??

any help would be appreciated !!!!
