picking up a Fat Lady
Last week, I visited my watchmaker. We talked for awhile and later he reached into a drawer and pulled out a 16760 GMT2 to show me. I consider the 16760 to be a difficult to find reference and I have only seen one once previously at the KY Vintage Rolex GTG last October.
This "Fat Lady" is is remarkable condition overall and the original dial and hands are intact and have a nice creme patina The case has never been polished and the green hologram was never removed. The serial # 9360XXX dates this watch to c. 1986. Included was the original bracelet # 78360 with 501 end pieces and a date code of K2 (February 1986). I have been wearing this watch for 3-4 days and it is keeping excellent time. I believe I am the second owner and that this watch was only worn by the original owner on a few "special occasions". Below is an attempt to show the difference in the case thickness and crowns guard size of the 16760 compared to a 16710 D series. I am delighted to add this "Fat Lady" to my collection. She seems right at home with my other GMTs. |
