Correct, it is not the case, but the small parts within. Primarily it is the hairspring. When magnetized, the coils of the spring can stick to each other. This shortens the amplitude of the spring's cycle. This is why magnetized watches tend to run fast, not slow, as our logical heads tell us. They can stop completely or start and stop.
