It all depends what you want and expect from a watch. I have a watch that contains a DCF-77 receiver, meaning that it is controlled by a radio signal that synchronises it once every hour with a time base that is set by atomic clocks. It is waterproof to 5 ATM, stainless steel and fits comfortably on the wrist. You never, ever have to set the time yourself. Theoretically it has a deviation that is <1 second every 100,000 years. Pretty accurate and all you want from a time keeper. And it only cost EUR 18.99.

But.... Is this what you want from a watch? Sterile and soulless accuracy from an uninspiring and bland piece of technological marvel. It doesn't move me.

As I once wrote, any non-jewellery or dress watch over $400 is superfluous. It no longer serves the basic purpose it was made for. Citizen make very good diving watches with their Aqualand Pro range, I've owned several of them. Sturdy and reliable workhorses they are better then their Rolex counterparts. Better in the narrow sense of the word.

When you consider watches in the > $3000 price range, emotional value becomes prevalent. I prefer the humble Explorer over any technological marvel. Anytime. To me, that Explorer has soul, history.

Omega or Rolex? It is a personal choice. Rolex do all 'in house', Omega uses outsourced and modified movements in most of their models. If you like the Omega for your owns reasons, go for it. Asking for advice won't help you at all because the respondents will convey their own taste, not yours.
