Would you buy this GMT II?
Looking for advice... walked into a local chain jeweler and they had some estate pieces. They had a coke GMT II from 1997. Condition was ok, case had minor scratches and swirls, no dents. Bracelet was typical, not too much stretch but lots of scratches.
The jeweler claimed they don't polish them because some people want to find them as-is etc. They promised to include a trip to NY RSC in the final price. I could not get them to say they would request a full service just a polish and checkup. Hands/crystal/bezel all looked good and original. Bezel insert was probably recent. Watch has no box/papers or history. The jeweler offers a 2 year warranty and says all issues would be handled by Rolex. They are a Rolex AD, but not at this location. Other locations in the chain carry Rolex. It was marked $4000 and they were having a 25% off everything in the store sale so the final price would be $3000 including the trip to RSC. Mass is having a tax-free weekend, but it is only valid on items under $2500. I kept trying to negotiate the price to $2499 with no luck. Owning a GMT is on my list. In a perfect world I want a GMT (not GMT II) on a jubilee. The bracelet is an easy pickup here on TRF of course. What do you think? Fair price for the watch as described with what's included? I only will buy if its a screaming bargain. Else I will look here on TRF for one. Seems like similar watches sell for more here on TRF but they mostly include papers and are in better condition. What say you?
