My collection
Hi,
Here's my collection & a little detail. Sorry if longwinded, (and Mods, apologies if in the wrong place) but its my first post with pics. Hope you enjoy. Started 20 yrs ago with an interest in watches. Omega Seamaster-bought at flea market 20 yrs ago. Speedmaster-bought new from AD in Dec 1993. Rotary Aquaplunge-bought at flea market 18 years ago. I know its a pretty std case from its period, but love that you dont see too many around. My daily wearer. Seiko Chrono-bought at flea market, 12 years ago. Rolex Exp 11. Bought 2nd hand from top dealer, with papers & box, 17 years ago. Papers were stamped 2 months prior so barely used by original buyer. Saw an ad in Time or National Geographic for the Exp 11 & that was it, had to get one. I think I was around 26 yrs old & remember it was a lot of money. Loved the fact that it was not seen as frequently as the Subs, did'nt shout Rolex, the profile seems to sit a little lower & loved the clean SS look & touch of red on the 2nd time zone hand. Used it frequently for lots of overseas work travel over the years. A fantastic rolex. A little later, I thought about a white daytona to go with the Black Exp 11. I was late 20's, single, earning good money. I did not come from a wealthy background. A Black & White pair of rolex's would be great, but I could not justify dropping 10k for a watch, any watch. And where was the date. This aint an Aquaplunge for 100 bucks from the flea market! Also I only needed a single Rolex. My parents, siblings, extended family & friends never owned them. So one was fine. So for past 15 years, I have been very happy with the Exp 11 & the couple of clangers. The Speedy, never got out of its box. Two years ago that all changed. Surfing ebay, I stumbled across a Tudor Chrono Oysterdate 79180. Silver with Black. I finished as the underbidder. Started investigating these fantastic watches & this forum & the rest is history! A chrono with a date, with a rolex crown & caseback. Looks a little like a Daytona and fantastic value. Decided to go with last of the Rolex stamped & caseback Tudor's being the 79280's as though they were cheaper than the older 79180's, they were made in smaller numbers & part of the fun for me is in the hunt. Tudor Chrono 79280 Silver with Black. Bought online from a reputable Australian dealer. DJ White. Ever since the Black Exp 11 all those years ago, always wanted that white dial Rolex & here was a perfect understated classic. Tudor Sub Blue 79190. Rolex finally launched a Blue sub but White Gold is beyond my price range. Found this one with papers. Again, 79190, might not be as valuable as a 79090, but not as easy to find as made in smaller numbers. Its a keeper. Last but not least, Tudor Chrono 79280 White with Silver. Bought online from Europe. Finally my white dial 'Daytona' with date. thats it. I'm done. ok, maybe a day date. (the Seiko doesnt qualify!) No rush, need to wait a while otherwise wife will go nuts if sees another pc. Some great guidelines / comments I have seen on this forum; - its a watch forum, chill & have fun - buy the seller - theirs always another one out there, if the terms of trade arent right, dont do it. (possibly exceptions to the very very very rare stuff). Dont just wire your money to anyone, anywhere. - if the price seems to good to be true, it generally is. - Dan's the Tudor man - Barkmaster, youre not on your own, some of us love Bark and lastly, - its just a pc of metal. Health & loved ones are more important. its a great forum. Thanks. tudorlex |
