Grinding sound from crown!?

Hey guys, just had my GMTIIc die on me so, went to give it a normal unscrew & wind however, noticed that now (all of a sudden) it makes a faint grinding noise while winding clockwise / forward. When I roll it backward / counterclockwise, no noise.

I screwed / unscrew the crown a few times and tried to fully extend the crown / depress a few times.

No luck, still makes the grinding noise and this is not normal.

Any ideas why? Perhaps something is caught in their, debris, etc.?

I don't really get the watch dirty and have had it since '08 with no issues.
