advice on sending out a 5513 for service

Greetings to all! I have a Rolex Submariner 5513 left to me by my father that I am about to send for service for the first time to RSC Dallas -
I believe it was purchased by my father between 1977 and 1987 - and to the best of my knowledge has never been sent out for service.
Reading thru the forum I know enough to keep the hands and dials original. Should i keep the plastic crystal original? Would it devalue the watch much if
the crystal is replaced? Any advice is welcome pertaining to sending out this watch for service. One thing of note is I intend to keep this watch and pass it on down to the family. Thanks in advance and forgive the so - so camera phone picture.
