My NEW Mark III ZenTona
I was sifting through all the garbage on eBay the other day when I came across a listing for a 16520 SS Daytona. I have been looking for one (Mark III or earlier) for some time. I have always liked the white face Zenith movement Daytonas with the matte bracelets. Nothing against shiny hips and bracelets, just not for me. It has been difficult to find one in mint condition.
Then I came across this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT It said "factory condition" and had been in a "showcase" for years. I've heard that one before. Talked to the guy and decided to take a chance. Here's what I got: The watch was new. Not like new. New. It still had all the plastic wrapping on the entire watch, bracelet, back, etc. Still had the hang tags, booklets (that were stuck unopened), original receipt, etc. No one had ever even put the watch on. The watch was made in 1991 and originally sold in December 1992. It was obviously put in a safe and was NEVER worn. I thought I was on candid camera (or Punked for you younger readers) so I took it up to my AD. They told me everything was legit and it in fact had the original factory packaging on it that could not be reproduced. I feel like I hit a home run - hole in one - three pointer at the buzzer. I have a brand new twenty year old watch that was made at a very special time in my life. It was made when I was graduating from college and it was sold when I finished my first semester of law school. Probably the most fun part of my life. Now I don't feel so bad having to dig through the CRAP in eBay to finally find something that is special to me. |
