i need your opinion on this
hello all,
i need your opinion on something i am thinking to do. purists, please do not read. as many of you know, i recently acquired an explorer 2 white dial. the watch is currently being serviced at the rsc. while waiting patiently for its return, i've been reading a lot about the explorer 2, and i am especially intrigued by larry's (aka tools) review on the clear caseback made by thomas preik. i know rolex does not make the prettiest movement, but i do find it interesting to be able to look through the caseback and see how each component is working flawlessly. i've already asked some forum member who did the modification and they have indicated the clear caseback does not make a significate difference in comfort, nor it has any water resistance issues. my only draw back is the cost of such modification. caseback + labor = ~$300 usd, which is more than what i am paying for a complete service at the rsc. (full service is ~$260 usd.) i do not make a lot for what i do, but i live comfortable as a single guy. thus, i have no plans on selling the watch in the future. my question to you is this... should i do it? |
