Greetings to all,
This is a repost of an introduction a placed in an apparently little used thread. Forgive the repost, but I wanted properly introduce myself and give a little backstory on how I came to own my watches. I am new to the forum, and must admit that I am not an experienced collector. I thought I would post my story of how I came to own my first two Rolex watches. This past month was the 38th anniversary of my father's death (I am 38). He had dreamed of owning a Rolex DJ for most of his life, and in 1972 he was able to get one. 2 years later he passed away in a car accident, and the watch was left to me. I was to receive it on my 18th birthday, but it was stolen from the relative that was holding it about 3 months prior to that date. A few years ago, a relative gave me a manual wind 1945 SS oyster, which I love, but last week another relative presented me with the box and papers from my father's original watch with a 1985 two toned 18k and SS DJ inside. I love both of these watches, and have been wearing the new one every day (even in inappropriate places), but at the end of the day, I wish I could track down the real one that belonged to my father. I know its a pipe dream seeing as how the theft took place 20 years ago, but at the very least, the entire experience has given me a love for these great watches, and two of my own to boot. Sorry if the post is a bit long winded. Anyway, here are my two watches and the box from the original. |
