winder problem

I remember a post some time ago concerning watches not fitting winders but can't find it. Picked up my new winder yesterday from my AD. Brought it home and went to put my Sub in and lo and behold the pad is about an inch too small. Fits my wifes watch perfectly but any mans watch is too big. I can put a piece of foam under the watch but then it almost looks as though the watch is close to hitting the glass cover. My cheapo winder has a spring loaded device to hold the watch which allows for adjustment. These winders with the pads have to fit the watch perfectly since you don't find many Rollies with Speidel bands! Anyone have a solution to this? (I know, leave it in the drawer and wind it manually).
