Usually best, for a first watch, to have an all black dial as it will go with anything. A Sub-C or GMTII-C is a perfect all rounder, comfortable in any situation. However, if this will be a 'special' watch, that only comes out on more special occasions, or just on weekends, then perhaps a Daytona? I'm in love with my Daytona, it's slimmer profile, lighter weight, and less sharp edges make it much more comfortable that my Sub or GMT.
