Datejust date setting

Hi...I inherited my Dad's Oyster Datejust recently...he bought it in the early 80's. It was not functioning so I had it repaired long distance. Anyway, from reading "date setting" directions online
I understood to unscrew the post one notch and rotate it clockwise to set the date. That didn't work so I sent the watch back. Then I got a call from the dealer saying that the older
Rolex's need to be wound counter-clockwise to advance the date. Seems strange but the watch is on its way back here and I thought I'd inquire here before I have a fit, or worse, damage the watch. Thanks very much.
