Full Circle (warning: long story)
I have always been a watch guy. Even as a kid, I had a collection of A-Watches.
When I was 25 I bought my first Tag, and then an Oris, an Omega a Breitling and then the list just goes on and on. When I turned 30 (8 years ago), my father brought 3 watches of his to dinner and told me to pick. I honestly don't even remember the other 2 as I always loved his polar Explorer II. Oddly enough, after wearing it for a relatively short time, I became quickly bored of it. I felt it was way way too small for me. He and I traded back and forth and he started wearing the Explorer again. One day he calls me and asks how I feel about him flipping it for a Yachtmaster. He was actually at the store and I did not have the heart to tell him he shouldn't do it. In fact, at the time, other than the sentimental value, I really did not care all that much. Being a flipper myself, I think I encouraged him to do it. But later, I regretted the move. During the last 8 years, I have bought and flipped literally dozens of watches. I loved them big, but was always looking for the perfect watch. I got back into Rolex a few years ago and I have flipped way too many of those as well. I loved them all, but quickly got bored. I currently have a collection of 5 that I really like (one is actually a speedy). During this time, my tastes have changed and I have begun coveting smaller more symmetrical watches. Well recently I decided that my 42mm 216750 was too big for me (for the third time). I wanted to go back to the original that I had. I found one from the legend (DavidSW) and purchased it. I have been in love since. I now find the size and balance to be nearly perfect and I love the white dial. I also love the sentimental value that I have attached to it. I typically don't attach any kind of sentimental value to my watches. I sent a wrist shot to my old man and it appears he too regretted his selling of it because a few weeks later he calls me to tell that he has been thinking about it since the pic and asks me to find him one. I once again call the legend and, low and behold, he has one coming in (he received it today). I am now picking this up for my father and I could not be happier. Not only do we have the watch (clearly not the same one) back in the family, but we will both be wearing the same watch. I am so super pumped to be getting this for him. I love this story.
