Introduction

"In August, the Lititz Watch Technicum held its fifth graduation ceremony. The Technicum, located in Lititz, PA, USA, is a two-year WOSTEP partnership school teaching micromechanics and watch service; it is underwritten by Rolex Watch USA. At the commencement ceremony, 12 students became certified watchmakers, receiving LWT diplomas and WOSTEP certificates. The commencement speaker at the graduation was WatchTime editor-in-chief Joe Thompson. What follows is the text of his speech, which reviews the remarkable comeback of the mechanical watch over the past two decades, but warns that the mechanical renaissance is a drama in three acts, and we are only in Act II..."
