I know little about watches, but, want something that will last me the rest of my life. Stainless steel, no gold, and goes with most everything are also important factors.

First, I would explore as many stores as you can and TRY THEM ON.

Only you can decide what watch works for you best. Also, there are other brands out there (sorry TRF) - don't just get a Rolex, to "get a Rolex."
