You either like your SO too much, or you don't like the SubC enough to give up your SO and cash too; i.e. why pay money and hand over your watch, when your watch makes you happy, and you can keep your money? I'm guessing it's at least a few thousand American...

Either way, it's a defensible position. No harm no foul - don't do the transaction until you are sure.
