What was it?
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me?
First a little background info.. I bought my first SS GMT in 1987. I knew very little about Rolex's at that time, other than that I wanted one. I'd read a little (probably a Rolex ad) about the heritage of the GMT and decided that was the watch I wanted. So I took a wad of notes down to the local AD, and walked out the proud owner of a brand new Pepsi. I'd admire that watch for hours as I read the booklet that came with it. Now my memory is a little hazy but I do remember reading how scratch resistant the sapphire crystal was, except I'm certain my watch had an acrylic crystal because it attracted scratches like flies! I remember it as a GMT II but can't even be sure of that, it had the red 24 hour hand. As the years went by I fell a little out of love with it and eventually it stopped working one day, so I took it into a RSC and after the guy quoted a price to fix it he must have seen the look on my face, and offered to buy it from me. To my eternal regret I accepted, and that was the end of my Pepsi. I must have still been in love with it because I never stopped thinking of it. So after a gap of 18 years I've got my beloved GMT II model back on my wrist, my 'second time'. Finally to the question I have...would anyone hazard a guess, based on that limited info, what the model number of that watch would have been? Last edited by second time; 22 August 2013 at 04:47 PM.. Reason: more info |
