The Calling of the Crown.

Hello,

My obsession with watches started when I was sixteen 16 years ago. I held a Rolex Date for the first time (found it during a move and could not trace the owner after trying to do so for a few weeks) and against much sound advice sold it for cdn$350. I figured that I could purchase a good enough dkny watch with many circular dials and pocket the rest of the money. Youth is truly wasted on the young, if I had any better sense I should have left the watch with the local police department or the condo office manager (who may have pawned it himself). Anyhow, the point being that I had made multiple errors, I sold a found watch, I used the money I got for the found watch for incomprehensible purchases, and I never got myself to stop thinking about that incident.

Fast forward to a decade later where I was earning some money albeit in rupees this time around and wanted to celebrate the fact that like many other fools before me, I was getting married much too early. To commemorate this event I set my heart on finally purchasing a Rolex, the submariner but instead bought the omega planet ocean (which is a brilliant watch by the way). That led to an even graver pursuit of the crown.

A couple of years post the Omega, I convinced myself that it was imperative that I purchase a Panerai to celebrate the birth of my daughter making my Rolex acquisition a distant dream.

Finally, I gathered the sense and funds to acquire my first Rolex two years ago to celebrate myself (a black dial non gv milgauss). at that point I remember spending weeks going through this very forum looking for secret validation and to read JJ's posts. I came back a week ago as I was readying myself for the purchase of my second Rolex. I bought the 116710blnr and am glad that I finally became part of this family. For me a Rolex has a soul that is many a time misunderstood, misrepresented, and mistaken. It is a watch that needs to be worn and slept with many times over for one to realize its worth.
