Is a Datejust practical?

I'm planning to change my GMT2c for a Datejust (SS with Jubilee bracelet, fluted Bezel, Roman numerals)
I like the idea of something a bit more 'classic' Rolex.
My wife has 34mm DJ with a Jubilee Bracelet and Roman numerals and every time I see it it looks so goddam shiny, new and Rolex-y compared to the GMT.

I'm struggling a little to sell the GMT in the UK, but when I do I'll try the white and blue dials and make a decision. I hope I don't regret it.

Anyway.... my question to you all is; Can I realistically use a DJ every day like I do with the GMT? Is it practical?
