winding smoothness

had a chance to try on the GMT IIc (its a beauty)the other day and was fiddling with the crown settings. i went to wind it and it was just BUTTER smooth. compared to my 214270, it was considerably different. my exporer's wind is fairly "rough" when winding slow and smoother(but not like GMT) when winding fast. is it just the caliber characteristics?
i will say that if i pull the crown out to adjust the time, it takes a pretty good tug to get it out initially. then i can press it in to first position and it pops to second position much easier.
