The Price Is Wrong Bob!
I was sitting here with the missus on an uneventful Friday night when, scrolling through the guide, I see there's a million dollar Price Is Right going on. Since I like um, work and stuff, I don't really get to watch my childhood favorite game show anymore, so I flip over. Well they basically upped the ante on everything. Usually the contestants will bid on something that cost around a grand to see who gets up on the stage to play a big game, but last night they were bidding on motorcycles and stuff like that.
Anyhoo, here comes a SS DJ with white a white dial and roman numerals up for bid. Granted, a entry level Rolex, but a ROLEX(!) none the less. First person bids $600 Second person- $601 Guess what ends up winning this thing? $1501 Actual retail price- $3850 Then, to top it all off, at the showcase showdown this guy bids over $80,000 for a catamaran that was about the cheapest thing i've ever seen and couldn't have gone for more than $2k and a Cadillac convertible. Obivously he was way high, and the bad part is that he wanted to go higher but the audience screamed at him so he lowered it This also got me to thinking about when I let my brother-in-law borrow my datejust with all the diamonds out in Vegas. About the 3rd day we went into a watch store and between that and my sub, we got attention rather quickly. As we walked out he said "How much do I have on my wrist right now anyway?" I said "Eh, if I had to replace it, it'd be over 5K". He couldn't believe it. He said he knew it was expensive but figured around 1K. Do you think people have any idea what we really spend on these things? EDIT: Crap, I just saw the other thread. Sorry, I did actually look for one I promise. Although, mine does have better detail |
