how do I set a quick date adjustment when starting a dead watch?

just curious, is there another way rather than pop the crown to third position and rotate the crown until it hits the right time and date? vs a quick date adjustment at position 2 (which mean there is possibility that the GMT hand may not in sync with the actual hour hand)?

I have the explorer 2 watch.
