Lets talk about Oyster Quartz
I came upon one of these the other day and I wanted to talk about it. I've seen a few websites dedicated to them and there is some good info there. Just wondering what you guys thought about them?
The one I saw was a 17013 two tone model that looked like this: (Photo was hijacked from oystrequartz.nl) It was brand "new" sitting at an AD. They offered me a "huge discount" which I don't think was much of a discount. The highest one sold on ebay recently was well under $2,000 and other at grey dealers seem to be about that price. Still, this one was new although it has its share of light scratches. Knowing this dealer the way I do I am sure they will not budge on the price but its twice what I think its worth. The serial number is an R which should be 1987-88 (the year I graduated high school!) Honestly I be interested if it had a white face or was a full stainless 17014 with a blue dial. I just liked it because the shape and bracelet are somewhat odd for Rolex. So questions.... I can't imagine this is a hidden gem, worth a fortune even though it is new? Would a watch this old need to be serviced before use? Would the lume on it work after 20 years? What would you pay for a new one? Any idea what it retailed for in 1988? |
