Is it safe (In Chicago)?

I will be spending a few days in Chicago next month and I was just curious to see if it would be advisable to wear my GMT during my trip? I will be staying near O'Hare and taking the Blue Line into the city. Public transit most of the time, open areas, etc.

I have never had an immerse experience in such a HUGE city. My only concern was for the safety of myself. I will be totally out of my comfort zone, being completely new to the city.
