The birthplace of 007...
I’m not long back from a weekend away with friends in Lisbon.
We visited the fabulous hotel Palacio in a little town called Estoril about 30 minutes outside of Lisbon. Now this is a very special hotel and more importantly a special bar where Royal Navy Intelligence officer Ian Fleming was based during the war and where he came up with the idea of James Bond! (and of course the famous Martini – “shaken not stirred”) The hotel was a hotbed for spies due to Portugal being neutral during the war. Sitting at the bar you could just imagine the espionage that took place as smoke filled the room with the allied spies at one side of the room and German spies at the other. A great weekend all round and a great day out especially for a Bond fan! A handful of pictures and the obligatory watch shot! A little window shopping... And lots of time spent here!!! With lots of these!!! |
