Coming back to the fold -- 372 or 504?
After a long hiatus, I'm trying to get back into watch collecting. The only watch left in my stable is an IWC Portuguese 5001 in steel with a black dial. I used to have a 111, but sold it to fund other things. Now I'm itching to add a Panerai back to my collection.
My first thought is perhaps the most obvious choice: the 372. That said, I'm feeling the itch to be a bit more adventurous. The 504 caught my eye. Generally, I prefer the base models or those with sub-seconds. I'm also biased toward in-house movements because I'm that kind of snob. Let's further assume this will be the only Panerai in my collection. What is the "right" choice? The 372 is close to winning out, but I wonder if it's too pedestrian to represent a manufacturer/brand known for unique special editions. Thanks! |
