Rolex 3135 movements, automatic and manual winding...?

Hi, I am new to my Submariner 3135 movements. It's stated it has a reserved power of 40 hours, is it only when using manually winding then when not wearing it, the power can last for 40 hours then stop..?
If I don't wind manually, and using the automatic function. When I not wearing it, the power can last for how many hours? I experienced it about 8 hours, it stopped..!! Is it normal or abnormal functioning?

Thank you 😉
