Both stationary and mobile radar speed monitoring is very prolific in Australia and not always used in a fair manner (there are places where its use is desirable and others where it serves no purpose other than revenue raising).
Radar detection devices are illegal and were regarded as unreliable before that. The big problem in most of non-metropolitan Australia is that the roads are single lane and it is virtually impossible to pass the large numbers of long heavy vehicles without exceeding the limit by a big margin. I am resigned to the fact that you have to just sit behind the slow drivers and wait for them to stop or turn off. I used to enjoy driving on long trips but now we go by air instead.
