Brushed bracelet - is inside of links finished same as outside?
On my (new to me) 14060m I've been wondering if the bracelet has been brushed/touched up. I assume it has due to age and how clean it is overall. I'm not worried that it may have been "polished" - I think that's the term used here on the forum for a brushed bracelet that's been brushed - but am simply curious.
I looked at the inside of the links and they show consistent grain from the (I assume) factory finish whereas the outside of the links are a bit more hazy. The brush marks look lighter/fainter. So 2 questions: 1. Is the brushing on the inside and outside of a new bracelet the same? 2. (Only I can answer I guess) Should I try brushing mine with Scotchbrite to get that same grainy finish? I suspect I'll wait until it needs some cleanup overall and then decide. 3. (I know I said 2 but...) I've read about the brushing removing metal. While I believe that, I'd think a minimal brushing with Scotchbrite (I've seen it said a couple times now that 4-5 passes will do it) could not remove much metal. I'd be surprised if that amount could even be measured. Thoughts? Now the resulting rounding/softening of the edges...well lets not even go down that path for now - I'm already pushing the OCD limit. And I love pics - so here are a couple of my bracelet - outside and inside. iPhone so not sure they'll show well. Tech item - I'm uploading from iPad and appears all files from library come over with same name (so can't upload 2). If anyone can help with that please do tell. |
