To the OP,I never had a M3. Did drive a 335i for 3 years. Great car. After that had a 997s. It looked great.Much better than the Bimmer. Always wanted a 911. Dream car of just about every male. The BMW made me feel like a great driver. I realized I wasn't that great after spinning out in my Carrera S a few times and it wasn't that fast.
Next up was my current DD. 997.1 TT. If you can deal with slightly lower electronics,it is the perfect DD. Ridiculous torque and acceleration. Looks,it's every boy's dream.

If you are looking for 2007,see if you can stretch your budget. To me, the perfect 911 turbo is a 2009 6 speed. Metzger engine and better electronics.
I drive a 2008.
Though I have tremendous respect for BMW,there is no substitute!
