Swapping strap / bracelet - scratching lugs?

Maybe I am worrying about this too much... But I have recently ordered some ends links for my pristine 16570 so that I can rotate some straps (also recently ordered!) on to the watch to make a change from the bracelet.

My 16570 is SEL with lug holes in case that matters. I am concerned about getting scratches on the back and insides of the lugs. I think I can avoid any on the front! Can I put tape on the lugs to avoid this or should I just resign myself that this is part of normal wear and tear and live with it?

Although my Exp II is a 1998 model it has almost no signs of any usage, with the tiniest marks on the back of the lugs indicating that the bracelet was removed in the past.
