This 44mm piece is a G Serial number. It has a stainless steel case. It is automatic and has antimagnetic features. It is chronometer certified (COSC). The bezel is brushed steel and rotates; it has 4 cardinal points (N, E, S, W). Marker points for intermediary positions are in white gold. The hours markers and numerals are luminescent. The piece has a sapphire crystal and the back has the Arktos Expedition logo. Water resistant to 300m/1,000 ft.

Background/Story:

On August 4, 2002, Mike Horn left North Cape, Norway on a 20,000km (12,500 mile), 27 month journey around the Arctic circle, mainly on foot, skis and kayak. He faced temperatures ranging from -94 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit, while dragging a sled loaded with 440lbs of equipment. On his wrist he wore a Panerai "Arktos", specially designed to endure the extreme conditions and magnetic fields of the North Pole. "At extremely low temperatures everything on me was frozen and did not work any more; the only thing which continued to work was my watch."

The unique instrument of survival during the 10 stages of the expedition whose name it carries, the Arktos, was especially designed and developed to exceptional specifications. Antimagnetic, encased inside soft iron, water tight to a depth of 300 meters, able to resist extreme temperatures down to -70 (whereas the oils used in the construction of a classic sports watch would fail at -30); the Arktos can also be used as a compass. The four points of the compass are marked on the rotating lunette, enabling the wearer to orient himself by locating north from the time on the watch.

The PAM92 was produced only as a "G" series (2004) with a total production run of 500 pieces.

I am happy to send additional photos as may be helpful.

I am open to reasonable offers for the piece.

I am willing to meet in person for buyers in the NYC area.

If the piece sells internationally, buyer is responsible for any import or duty fees.

Price: $8,500 + shipping OBO
